Hooked On Fishing Club Malta 1st Leg Doubles 2014 Competition.

This Competition was held on the 19th January 2014 at Boiler Wharf in Senglea. Commenced at 07:30 & finished at 11:30. In this Doubles League match we had 42 Anglers competing.

The weather for this Competition was forecasted to be strong winds, rain & thunderstorms; however the weather died down into our favor as the winds died down & there was only a drizzle of rain. We all met up at 06:30 where the pegs where allocated for the teams, anglers started rigging up their tackle & preparing the ground baits eagerly waiting for the start of the competition. At 07:30 sharp the horn sounded & all teams started fishing.

The Venue was looking promising from the start as there were quite a few bites straight away; there was Black Sea bream, Mullet & Annular Sea bream caught & other various species that you would find in Ports. Obviously in these circumstances the anglers started to change fishing methods & rigs. I can say that the tackle that was being used was light even 0.10mm lines where being used.

There was a few pegs that where situated at the end of the quay closer to Senglea started to get descent size Mullet to bite some weighed at 930grams , 860 grams & 730grams. The other side of the quay was less productive but the experienced anglers still managed to catch boxlip mullet , Black Sea bream, Mullet & Annular Sea bream other bottom fish & even a nice sized Saddled Seabream.

Winners of the match day where presented with Vouchers from our sponsor ‘Fishin Fever tar Rabat’

The winners of this Competition was team named ‘The Catchers’ with 3 Kilos & 680 grams , in 2 nd place team ‘Niccu’ with 2 Kilos & 560 grams & 3rd place team ‘Dolphins’ with 2 Kilos & 280 grams. Total fish caught 23 Kilos & 960 grams which is a good result for this time of year. Wish to emphasize that all the fish caught where all released.

The Club practices catch and release in order to ensure sustainability and to avoid overfishing of fish from our waters.
