Hooked On Fishing Club Malta

1st Leg Singles Hooked on Fishing Club League , Sponsored by Xuereb Installations Ltd.

This Competition was held on the 18th May 2014 at Mellieha 'Santa Marija Estate' Commenced at 06:45 & finished at 10:45. In this Singles League match we had 31 Anglers competing.

We all met up at 05:30 where the pegs where allocated for the anglers according to the previous poll that was completed in our singles League registration meeting. The atmosphere was as usual very friendly one where tips were also given & a few jokes where not a miss neither.

This match was eagerly awaited by all the Anglers as it was an awaited venue, being the first ever Competition being held at Mellieha by any other ‘Clubs’. Most of the anglers never fished this area before neither so no one knew what was expected.

This venue was chosen by the Club’s committee is continuously scouring our shores and hard workto enable our members to fish new areas.

As soon as the start signal was given the Singles League kicked off with all the anglers using their own techniques, the majority of the fish that were biting mainly bottom feeding fish. All the anglers did their best to catch as many fish possible, although weather was not at it best due to strong Easterly winds & quite a lot of currents but they still managed to combine a total of just over 12 Kilo of fish. Mainly bottom fish Parrot Fish, Wrasse and Painted Comber , a few anglers also managed to get a few Boxlip Mullet too.

The ‘Club’ anglers done their upmost and shown that they are capable of catching fish in any conditions. All the competitors gathered for the weigh in & results of the day.

Winners of the match day where presented with Vouchers from our sponsor ‘Fishin Fever tar Rabat’

The winners of this 1st Leg Singles Competition was Jamie Bonnici with 1 Kilo & 440 grams , in 2 nd place Brian Farrugia with 880grams & in 3rd place Lawrence Pulis 820 grams. Total fish caught 12 Kilos & 140 grams which is a good result considering the weather conditions. Wish to emphasize that all the fish caught where all released.

The Club practices catch and release in order to ensure sustainability and to avoid overfishing of fish from our waters.
