3rd Leg Doubles H.O.F.C 2015 Competition.
This Competition was held on the 8th March 2015 at Malta Manoel Island . Commenced at 07:15 & finished at 11:15.
We all met up at 06:00 the usual chatting & jokes between all participants, especially for the early birds. There was quite some expectations from the anglers a discussing what they expect to find & what type of fish to expect. In the meantime the pegs where being placed with the anglers eagerly awaited the draw to see which spot they where going to fish. At the same time the 'H.O.F.C Jackpot was drawn too again peg number 10 was with the possibility to win it.
The weather conditions were not the best as there was a hefty swell coming in. As soon as the signal sounded at 07:00 you could hear the sound of the ground bait hitting the water together with the sounds of the anglers first casts. There was a few bottom fish landed such as Wrasse, various Bream, Grey wrasse , Mullet , Blotched Picarel & Bogue. There was a few pegs that were not that productive & the fish were not biting. You could see everyone trying out different techniques to try & catch as many fish possible. On the other hand there was a couple of spots that were catching Moray Eels which in fact one of the teams was Carmel Spiteri & Alexander Spiteri that ended up placing 1st overall on the day. Another species that was caught on the day were parrot fish but not as much as everyone expected as the area is well known for them. A very nice size Brown Wrasse was caught by team Brian Farrugia & Sandro Zammit in the last few minutes helped them to clinch 2nd place overall. Team Peter Paul Azzopardi & Mario Micallef managed to attract the Mullet to their swim which they managed to hold on too & placed in 3rd. . As the time passed by at the latter part of the competition the weather started deteriorating with the swell increasing, making it more difficult to fish.
The Marshall's started the weigh in process as soon as the signal was given to end the fishing session at 11:15hrs. Anglers started rigging down the gear to follow the Marshall's weigh in process & see what fish was caught eagerly awaiting the results of each section to see how they all done.
A total of 14 Kilos 540 grams was caught on the day Wish to emphasise that all the fish caught where all released. The Club practices catch and release in order to ensure sustainability and to avoid overfishing of fish from our waters.
The usual gathering at the end of the match with everyone discussing what went on that morning, learning from each other knowledge experience & techniques used, refreshments were made available by Raymond Farrugia, and a homed nutella sponge cake made by Sandra Agius Darmanin , thanks for the continuous support. There was raffle tickets also being sold with a chance to win a Tubertini Killer Trout Rod sponsored by ‘Tubertini Malta' . Carmel Spiteri was the winner for this draw. The 'H.O.F.C Jackpot' also won by team Carmel Spiteri & Alexander Spiteri they fished peg number 10 & were the 1st overall on the day.

The winners of this H.O.F.C Doubles League 2015 3rd Leg was team Alexander Spiteri & Carmel Spiteri with 2 Kilos 420 grams, in 2nd place team Brian Farrugia & Sandro Zammit with 2 Kilos 280grams & 3rd place team Peter Paul Azzopardi & mario Micallef with 1Kilo 820 grams. Total fish caught 14 Kilos & 460 grams
