Micheal Godfrey wins final match but not enough to stop Tubertini boy Marlon Tanti being crowned Ellevi Float Champion 2018. With clear sunny skies and moderate north winds Marsascala front was the venue chosen for the final match of the Ellevi Float fishing league organised by Hooked on Fishing Malta. Our Anglers started well off the day and were all prepared for the fish bites which were showing some abundance in early hours of the day.
It was mainly mullet which was biting notwithstanding the breeze from the North East started picking up and making the fishing a bit difficult on floats. Micheal Godfrey started well off netting some nice sized fish which consisted mainly mullets including a nice sized specimen, some different breams and the one off blue runners. Micheal ended the match in first place netting a nice 1.8kgs of fish and yet did not manage to grab the first overall but still classy with a third overall on the podium. Marlon Tanti was geared up properly on his Tubertini bolo rods netting a nice sized mullet and a different mix of fish.
One must keep in mind only bread was the allowable bait on the day. Marlon ended the day in second place and this meant making a nice leap over Peter Paul Azzopardi which was leading the overall table. With today’s result Marlon Tanti is confirmed club champion for the prestigious Ellevi Float fishing league 2018. Another title cup for this marvelous well organised angler which will surely will not be the last. Well done boy from all your team mates yet competitors from the big family of Hooked on Fishing. Next to his peg on the day Ellevi boy Adrian Nelson showed some skill on pole rod netting a nice bream and some good number of small mullets and ended the day on third place with 1.4kgs, while Peter Paul Azzopardi a few pegs up was having the match of his life knowing Marlon and Micheal were picking up weight. Peter Paul ended the day with 700gms of fish and despite losing the first overall on the podium he still managed a nice second overall. On peg number one Carmel Spiteri had a nice fight on pole float and landed a biggest fish overall which was a nice mullet weighing 580gms. This means another nice cup for Carmel in next Sunday’s presentation lunch.
A big well done goes to all the anglers participating in this year’s float league exclusively sponsored by Ellevi. Additionally Tubertini Malta for sponsoring the biggest fish trophy and GSD for refreshments. Thanks to our photographer on the day Joe Magri which provided some nice shots for all the anglers. Also some other footage by Lawrence Pulis who captured some really nice moments in releasing back the fish being caught from today’s match with some small video clips that may be viewed on our website and facebook page later on this week.
It was yet again a great league battled in a great sportsmanship and friendship amongst the club members that ended up with a handshake between all the anglers after the presentation. With a great final match that was the topping on the cake for another successfully organised league with the backing of the committee members it will be now turn for next Sunday’s annual presentation.
