Second win in a row for Ellevi boys Peter Paul Azzopardi and Adrian Nelson 3rd match of the HOFC Tub
With negligible wind in the early hours of day it showed it was going to be a pleasant day for our anglers. Match started 7.00am sharp after the anglers were all set on their pegs and ground baiting started 5 minutes prior the initial whistle. Perfect positioning of pegs with the help of the well organised committee which worked out the position of the pegs on Saturday morning the day prior the match.
It was clear evident some good weights will be registered on the day from the early casts as all anglers started immediately putting fish in the keepnets. Section A was won by Ellevi team Peter Paul Azzopardi and Adrian Nelson netting a total of 3.28kgs with a good number of wrasses, 3 nice sized mullets and a moray weighing 700gms. Second in this section placed Martin Pace and experienced float angler Micheal Godfrey sticking on to the English waggler method and netting some nice sized mullets on bread flake, paste and farka. Third place in this section went for Lawrence Pulis and Sheldon Bouvett. The boys powered by Tubertini and Ellevi baits mainly fished on paternoster rigs and pole fishing and netted a decent total of 1.66kgs just some 20gms less of Micheal Godfrey and Martin Pace. This puts Lawrence and Sheldon in a top position in the overall league table and with just 2 more matches to go this is yet again proving a good race for the top 3 places. Third place in this section went to Etienne Bugeja and Jonathan Farrugis who were fishing on the first peg. Godfrey Mifsud and Hertian Gauci missed to take advantage from today’s match and managed just 2 points with our fellow anglers Jean Claude Tonna and Jake Seychell ending last in section but still in 4th place overall. In section B it was also a nice race between Tubertini boys Etienne Sillato and his team mate Brady Sammut who managed a nice weight of 3.19kgs and Ellevi brothers Carmel and Alex Spiteri with a 3.13kgs. Tubertini boy Etienne Sillato netted a super moray eel weighing 1.88kgs and this puts him in top position of winning the biggest fish for this year’s league. Third in this section placed Ismael Psaila and Justin Spiteri winning their first section win with a decent weight of 1.35kg followed by Matthew Dimech and Noel Baldacchino who managed a decent 3 point from the match. Ninu Zahra and Joe L-Ghawdxi got 2 points while Giovann and Jean Claude our only club member from Gozo did not have a very pleasant day with just 900gms and ending last in section.
Overall winners on the day were Peter Paul Azzopardi and Adrian Nelson followed closely on weight by Brady Sammut and Etinne Sillato, while in third Carmel and Alex Spiteri got the final podium place. A total of more than 20kgs of fish were caught all of which were kept alive and released back to their natural habitat after the match. Goes without saying a big well done to all that took part today for the great sportsmanship and the marshals for the snack and marshaling the match to ensure everything running smoothly. Raffle winner for today was Alex Spiteri winning a nice Tubertini rod and a Mitchell match reel.
