Carmel kept up a good pace with some nice breams and bottom fish with a total of over 2kgs winning the match.

Today started the sport angling year 2024 for Hooked on Fishing Club Malta. Kickoff in Senglea with the pole league.

Enjoyable match with favourable winds nice murky seas and no currents.

At 7.00am sharp the horn sounded to kick off the pole league.

12 competitors will be participating this year using only the pole with different techniques both on ledger and float combinations.

The venue chosen was a deep area and competitors started mostly tempting fish on bottom which was from 5 to 7 metres deep.

Peter Paul Azzopardi who was fishing the next peg on Carmel's left placed second with 1.96kgs whilst Lawrence Pulis made also a good start with third place of 1.75kgs.

Mostly breams and bottom fish were caught, a couple of pegs with some small mullet and most anglers ended the last couple of hours speed fishing damsel fish.

Next match will be next Sunday with the venue chosen later on this week.

All fish were released after the match after the weigh in.
