Overall Winners HOFC Tubertini R18 Doubles League 2020.


The HOFC Tubertini Malta Pesca R18 Doubles League 2020 came to an end last weekend after a challenging year for everyone. This would have normally ended in May but due to the current situation with COVID 19 this had to be postponed till later this year.


This year’s Winners where Josef Cassar & new commer Gabriel Sampei (Team Go Fish ) who just lost 1 point in all 4 matches & also the top recorded weight of 12.140kgs combined in all 4 matches. In second place with just 1-point shy off the winners it was Jonathan Farrugia & Etienne Fiona Bugeja (Ellevi Boy & Xtreme Fishing Team) also with a total a nice recorded weight of 11.750kgs. In third place last year's champions (Ellevi Team) Adrian Nelson & Peter Paul Azzopardi where also close with just 2 points away from the winners and 1 point from 2nd place with another good weight of 11.590kgs. The Biggest Fish this year was won by (ellevi boy) Alexander Spiteri netting a 1.450kgs Moray Eel at Sliema. It was good to see that out of 16 teams that took part 13 teams managed to clinch a trophy this year. Main factor was that it was great to see the sportsmanship between all that took part & seeing our younger generation anglers and new commers doing well & giving the rest of the anglers a hard time to beat and persevering to obtain good results.


Unfortunately, we had some teams that had to pull out of the League early due to the change of dates when the League was postponed, injuries and work commitments in these volatile times. Nevertheless, it was a great experience for all and was a well challenged League with also managing to fish alternate venues where the Anglers enjoyed fishing at.


Would like to take the opportunity to thank Nathal Grechl, Gary Pace & Dunstan Mangion for volunteering to help out with marshalling when needed. Their help is truly appreciated by both committee and members.

It was a pleasure seeing the sportive competitiveness but at the same time-sharing knowledge to help each other out in improving on certain set Ups & techniques.


Presentation will be announced for all to meet up & distribute the Trophies to the winners, as it stands at the moment due to Social distancing etc it will not be the same as previous years but never the less we will still enjoy the time seeing all collect their awards.
